Experience

Having taught classes of up to 25 students for years and after having tutored 1 on 1 for years, I can say that tutoring is often the more sincere, personalized, and poignant form of teaching. I tutor because it has the best chance of sustainable learning in a student's academic growth and because I love to help others understand and reach meaningful experiences, ideas, and goals through writing. -8 semesters of in-person writing tutoring experience across 2 Universities graduated from and 1 Community College currently employed at. -11 semesters at Jefferson College as currently employed adjunct instructor teaching English Composition, English Literature, and Basic Writing Skills. -6 semesters of online writing tutoring experience at current employment. -1 year experience as a tutor and mentor of Chinese high schools students involving help with study skills, ESL, and college preparation. -Current experience of self-employed tutoring the college application writing (common application) using insight from former work experience with college applications for Chinese high school students in America.

Hobbies

I am familiar with giving and taking control throughout a tutoring session to help with whatever the student needs or the kind of learner/personality they are. This can include empathetic encouragement or a sincere push for the student to achieve more. I love to learn which is why I love to teach. Some of my favorite things to learn about are other cultures, namely Chinese culture, current events (I always listen to NPR when commuting), History (I'm fond of the American Civil War in particular), and writing poetry (I love the ever-evolving challenge of it).
